"Companion Fruit", 2003
Designed by Jane McGown FlynnOne of my required pieces for McGown Teacher
Certification. I added a braided border to make this small piece larger.
Most pieces of this type and size get framed, but I have more floor space than
wall space. This rug will welcome my students into the studio.
I will not be giving up hooking for braiding. I am so sore I can
barely lift my arms. Braiding is way too physical for me, but it makes
a fantastic edge for a rug. I found I needed to pad the center under
the hooking to bring the hooked portion up to the same height as the braids.
I used a piece of quilt batting and a piece or two of wool that was too
thick to hook. I guess you could say that the rug is reversible, but
the back is just one piece of wool. Next time I might hook tow pieces
the same size and then I would have a truly reversible rug. |
