Teaching Schedule

Workshops and Rug Camps

**only classes available to the public are shown.  All classes are open (you can hook whatever you want, there is not a class project)  unless otherwise noted.

Cedar Lakes Rug Camp, May 11-16, 2008 - See the ads in Rug Hooking Magazine.  Many teachers teach at this camp.  It's a large camp and a wonderful country setting.  All the teachers sell wool and the store has a wonderful assortment of rug hooking "stuff."

Rugs by the Sea, Cape May, New Jersey, September 14-19, 2008 or September 21-26, 2008*  This camp runs for two weeks.  I have not been assigned a week for 2008 yet.   I love this camp because the ocean is just a block away.  A walk before breakfast and one or two in the evening are the highlights of the experience for me.  The hotel is not your everyday hotel.  The Chalfonte is a beautiful, historical hotel with charm and creaky floors.  No phones or TVs in the room.  The restroom and shower is down the hall just a few steps, but I have never had to wait for my turn

McGown Southern Teachers' Workshop, March 15-20, 2009 in Ripley, West Virginia at Cedar Lakes Conference Center.  Wide cut faces.  This workshop is open only to McGown certified teachers, or those in training to receive their accreditation.

Manistee Rug Camp, June 22-26, 2009 in Manistee, MI.  It is at a new facility with air conditioning.  Students can work on any project they like.  I will give lectures based on questions you ask.  Contact Alaina Trout for more information: ibfishwich@aol.com.

**several other engagements during the year are with private groups.  Contact me to set up dates for your group, either at your location or here in Pemberville, OH.

No classes during Summer

Class times:        Friday Morning        Friday Afternoon
                                9:00-11:30                  12:30-3:00

Class rates:       $12.00/class, total of $72.00 for all six classes payable at the first class
$20.00 to sit in on a single class, please call in advance for availability

Classes are  held on Friday at my home in Pemberville, OH.  Returning students are automatically enrolled in each new session.  New students are added only as space permits.  All equipment and supplies are available for purchase by students.  I teach these classes as an open studio class, each student chooses their own project and the topics covered in each class are determined by the needs of the students.  You will learn as much from each other as from me. Creativity and self expression are encouraged.  Sneak a peek at my studio.  Classes are held in the living room downstairs.

Classes are $12.00 per class and paid in full for each session at the first class, total $72.00. Students can make up classes by attending one of the other class times, but no refunds will be given for missed classes.  For instance, if you are a member of the morning class you can attend all day to make up for a missed morning class.  New students joining mid-session will pay only for the remaining classes in the session at the first class attended and should bring a 14" quilting hoop or hooking frame, scissors, pencil and notepad.  A special makeup lesson is often scheduled when several students miss class.

Students can attend both morning and afternoon for $144.00 for all six weeks.  Bring a sack lunch to eat between classes.  This option is often attractive to students who have a long drive to class.

I will cancel classes during bad weather.  Many of my students are on the road for an hour to get to class.  Additional classes will be added to the session to compensate for the missed class times.

*Supplies are stored upstairs, classes are in the living room downstairs.

Please contact me for availability.  If you prefer a different day or time of the day, please let me know.  When enough interest is shown for a particular time, a new class will be started.  Please note that I am often out of town for a week or more at a time and my not answer right away.

Ongoing Beginning and Intermediate Classes

Black Swamp Quilt Shoppe in Millbury, OH is beginning to carry rug hooking supplies so I will be teaching the Saturday classes there.  Call the owner, Allison Gollehan at 419-215-3574 for the class schedule and prices.  The shop is located at 1535 Woodville Rd.  Be sure to register and pay for the class in advance.  Classes will be cancelled if attendance is too low.

These classes are "studio style."  Bring your current project, buy a pattern in the shop, or design your own.  Whatever you want to work on, that is what I will help you with.  Brand new to hooking?  I will help you pick a pattern and get you started.  Topics for each class will be determined by the students in the class.  Class will be offered on a regular basis and space is limited.  Reserve your seat today!

Meetings and Gatherings

Sylvania Senior Center, 6850 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH. 9:30am - 12pm.  No room fee, small group, big ideas!  Meets the first and third Thursday of each month.  You can attend even if you do not qualify for senior status.  I have been attending for many years and still have not met the senior age "requirement."

Michigan Rugg Artistes, a McGown guild.  Cherry Hill Church in Dearborn, MI.   10am - 2pm.  This is a new and vibrant guild that hosted the 2004 McGown National Rug Exhibit in Dearborn, MI.  Come join us and get involved!  Guild dues apply if you choose to join.  Teachers are brought in for members only classes several times a year.  This is a great alternative if you cannot get away for a week long workshop.
