FAQ

Have you read Dyeing Without Dye and Dyeing by the Numbers but still have questions?  Someone else may have already asked your question.  If not, please send me an email.

How much wool do I use for the recipes?  1/2 yard

What is trans-color and how do I dye it?  Trans-color wool is one color at the beginning of the strip and slowly changes into a second and then a third color.  The colors stay more pure than in dip dyeing.  Use the painting technique without thickener and apply dye in bands to the wool.  Be sure to overlap the colors where they meet so you get a smooth transition.  Use the back of a spoon to rub back and forth and blend the colors.  You can soak the wool normally and add the acid to the dyes, but be sure to use all the dye so you get the correct amount of vinegar.
